The Bertha Foundation supports activists, storytellers and lawyers across the world, who are working to bring about social and economic justice, and human rights for all. The Bertha Scholars at the GSB are part of this global Bertha Foundation network. The Bertha scholarship is open to innovators, entrepreneurs, out-of-the-box thinkers, system-entrepreneurs, change-makers, social activists and cross-disciplinary candidates from any field provided they are actively involved in the exploration of social, environmental and/or economic justice using innovative approaches. The Chinese Government is offering scholarships for South African students to study at Chinese institutions. The Department of Higher Education and Training is responsible for nominations. The scholarship may be awarded for undergraduate (Bachelors) in the identified scarce skills, postgraduate (Masters or PhD) or non-degree Chinese language studies. Bachelor’s degree scholarships are taught in Chinese and will only be awarded to applicants who already have the required level of Chinese proficiency (HSK 4 or above). Preference is given to applications for postgraduate studies.

Jones & Wagener is a specialist firm of consulting engineers and scientists based in South Africa. Jones & Wagener offer a limited number of bursaries for Civil Engineering students studying at South African universities.

The MQA bursary scheme was established to increase the number of learners taking careers in the mining and minerals sector. The bursary will be awarded to students enrolled in careers identified in the scarce and critical skills list, particularly in core mining related disciplines.

The South African Weather Service invites graduates who are in possession of a three year BSc degree with suitable major subjects such as Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Physics. Oceanography or Meteorological related subjects, to apply for a bursary to undergo a one year course in basic meteorology. On successful completion of the course selected students will have an opportunity to study the BSc meteorology Honours course and the post graduate certificate in Weather Forecasting as stipulated by the South Africa.

The Wangari Maathai Scholarship Fund is an environmental innovations fund set up in memory of Professor Wangari Maathai that aims at developing action oriented young people with strong values and commitment to the conservation of the physical and social environment in Kenya. The fund has been established by The Rockefeller Foundation, The Green Belt Movement and Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF).

The WWF Prince Bernhard Scholarships (PBS) are awarded to individuals from developing/emerging economies (East and South) who wish to pursue formal studies or mid-career professional training in the field of nature conservation. Under the patronage of the late HRH Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands and to pay a lasting tribute to the Founder President of WWF and The 1001: A Nature Trust, the WWF Prince Bernhard Scholarship Fund for Nature Conservation was created in 1991 to help build conservation expertise and leadership in developing countries and emerging economies. As a priority, the PBS support mid-career training (up to a maximum of one year) for individuals working in the field of conservation or associated disciplines directly relevant to the delivery and promotion of conservation.
