Bursaries By Study Field : Language & Literature Studies

The Chinese Government is offering scholarships for South African students to study at Chinese institutions. The Department of Higher Education and Training is responsible for nominations. The scholarship may be awarded for undergraduate (Bachelors) in the identified scarce skills, postgraduate (Masters or PhD) or non-degree Chinese language studies. Bachelor’s degree scholarships are taught in Chinese and will only be awarded to applicants who already have the required level of Chinese proficiency (HSK 4 or above). Preference is given to applications for postgraduate studies.

The Department of Arts and Culture is inviting applicants who have not participated in any Internship programme and currently unemployed and should not have had previous formal employment related to their field of study. Candidates must have completed a 3 year Degree or National Diploma in any field specified below and who are between the ages of 18 and 35 years. Qualifying people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Available to school-leavers who will enter upon a first degree course majoring in English, in the year following their application. Tenable at any South African University/Teachers Training College.

Available to students entering their second year at Rhodes University Department of English only. The award is based on academic merit and a financial need. Candidates will be selected on mid-year exam results during first year and motivation.

For postgraduate study in English or related fields. Preference is given to Honours course students. Candidates will be selected on academic merit, qualities of character, motivation and field of study.
