Aircraft Electrician

An Aircraft Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of all electrical and electronic systems on an aircraft. This includes wiring, avionics equipment, lighting systems, communication systems, and navigation systems. They must ensure that all electrical systems are functioning properly and comply with safety regulations and industry standards.


Tasks:

  • Install and maintain aircraft electrical systems, including wiring, avionics, lighting, communication, and navigation systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical problems in aircraft systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to identify electrical components and their functions.
  • Test electrical systems to ensure they meet safety and industry standards.
  • Install, repair, and maintain generators, motors, and other electrical components.
  • Inspect and maintain electrical equipment and tools to ensure they are in good working order.
  • Follow safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of electrical and electronic systems.

An Aircraft Electrician plays an important role in ensuring the safety and reliability of aircraft electrical systems. To become an Aircraft Electrician, one must complete an approved aircraft maintenance program with an electrical specialisation and possess a valid aircraft maintenance license from the South African Civil Aviation Authority.

  • National Senior Certificate (Matric) or equivalent.
  • Completion of an approved aircraft maintenance program with an electrical specialization.
  • Possession of a valid aircraft maintenance license from the South African Civil Aviation Authority.
  • Strong knowledge of aviation regulations and safety standards.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with other technicians and engineers.
