Aircraft Instrument Mechanic

An Aircraft Instrument Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, testing, repairing, and maintaining the avionics systems and instruments on an aircraft. These systems include navigation, communication, flight control, and radar systems. They use various diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and troubleshoot problems with aircraft instruments and then repair or replace faulty parts as necessary.


Tasks:

  • Conduct regular inspections of avionics systems and instruments to ensure they are in proper working condition.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with aircraft instruments and avionics systems.
  • Repair or replace faulty parts using hand and power tools.
  • Test repaired or replaced systems to ensure they are functioning properly.
  • Document all work performed and keep accurate records of maintenance and repairs.
  • Collaborate with other aircraft maintenance personnel to ensure safe and efficient aircraft operation.

Qualifications include a National Senior Certificate (Matric) or equivalent, an Aircraft Maintenance Technician license from the SACAA, and completion of a recognized technical or vocational training program in avionics or electronics.
