Aircraft Painter

An Aircraft Painter is responsible for applying paint and coatings to the exterior and interior surfaces of an aircraft. They work to maintain the appearance and protect the aircraft's surfaces from environmental damage. Their work involves surface preparation, paint mixing, paint application, and cleaning up after the job is complete.


Tasks:

  • Prepare surfaces for painting by removing old paint, cleaning, and sanding the aircraft's surfaces.
  • Mix and match paint colours to ensure a perfect match to the aircraft's existing colour scheme.
  • Apply primer, paint, and coatings to the aircraft's surfaces using various methods, including brushes, rollers, and spray guns.
  • Maintain and operate paint equipment and tools, including spray guns and paint booths.
  • Inspect and test painted surfaces to ensure that they meet quality and safety standards.
  • Maintain an organised and safe work area and adhere to all safety protocols and regulations.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of paint materials and mixing techniques.
  • Proficiency in various painting techniques, such as brush, roller, and spray gun.

Personal Requirements

How to Enter

A National Senior Certificate (Matric) or equivalent is typically required to become an Aircraft Painter. Additionally, completion of a painting apprenticeship or vocational training program can provide valuable skills and knowledge in the field. Prior experience in painting or related fields can also be beneficial.
