Cost of Study at a Public University in South Africa
The total cost to study at any public university in South Africa will depend on what degree you study and where you study. Keep in mind that you don't pay per degree but rather the costs of your courses which make up your degree combined. For this reason, universities provide an estimate of costs per degree.
In addition, the cost of study will vary depending on the type of degree that you do, for example a human science degree will be less expensive than an engineering degree or a degree in medicine.
The table below provides an estimate of fees calculated for various degrees for 2022. Note: These fees serve only as a guide and you should contact the university directly for a more detailed quotation of fees for your specific degree.
In general, tuition fees cover cove all charges for classes, tutorials and laboratories, university examinations, access to the libraries and general sporting facilities. They do not include the cost of text books, residence or membership to clubs or societies.
