Geography
DescriptionGeography is the study of Earth’s landscapes, peoples, places and environments. Geography is unique because it links the social sciences (human geography) with the natural sciences (physical geography). Human geography investigates the activities and impact of people on earth, their cultures, societies and economies, and physical geography examines the natural processes and features, such as the atmosphere, landforms and ecosystems.
PurposeGeography helps you understand the basic physical systems that affect everyday life (e.g. earth-sun relationships, water cycles, winds and ocean currents). You find out where places are, and the physical and cultural characteristics of those places so that we can function more effectively in our increasingly interdependent world, and develop a commitment towards sustainable development.
