With a Bachelor's Degree pass you can apply to study towards a degree at a university, university of technology, TVET college or any accredited Higher Learning Institution. This is the minimum pass requirement legislated by government for learners wanting to apply towards for a degree. 

There are three pass levels in matric, these are:

  • Higher Certificate pass
  • Diploma pass
  • Bachelor's Degree pass  

Bachelor's pass (previously known as matric with exemption) will allow you to study towards a degree at university. In order to achieve a Bachelor's Degree pass you need to meet the following minimum requirements in matric: 

  • Pass 6 of your 7 subjects 
  • Obtain at least 40% for your Home Language
  • Obtain at least 50% in 4 subjects (excluding Life Orientation)
  • Obtain at least 30% in 2 other subjects. 

Does a Bachelor's pass give me automatic entry into university? 

A Bachelor's pass in matric does not qualify you for automatic entry into a degree programme. Over and above the the pass requirements, each university (or university of technology) will have minimum entry requirements depending on the programme you are applying for.  Each university will have its own minimum APS score requirements per course. Contact the university or visit the university website to check APS requirements.
