Joel Joffe LLB Scholarships for study at the University of the Western Cape and The University of Fort Hare. We invite applications from current 3rd year students (going into their 4th year in 2020) studying for an LLB at the University of the Western Cape or the University of Fort Hare. These scholarships are offered in memory of Joel Joffe, who was Nelson Mandela’s lawyer in the 1963/4 Rivonia Trial. He played a crucial role in the struggle for democracy in South Africa. The Trust continues to build on his legacy, inspiring others to do as much as possible to realise human rights and reduce poverty. Cliff Dekker Hofmeyr offer opportunities to graduates who have completed LLB studies at university and who are looking to complete articles. Candidate attorneys are given opportunities in a variety of client events, graduate recruitment initiatives at universities as well as internal firm events (i.e. charity events, sports events and social activities in the office).

Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr award a number of bursaries to law students enrolled as a full-time student at a South African university for the LLB degree. Awards are based on academic performance and proven excellence in any other field.

The Department of Arts and Culture is inviting applicants who have not participated in any Internship programme and currently unemployed and should not have had previous formal employment related to their field of study. Candidates must have completed a 3 year Degree or National Diploma in any field specified below and who are between the ages of 18 and 35 years. Qualifying people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

The minimum requirement for qualification for such a bursary is a BA (Law), B Comm (Law), B Iuris or B Proc degree or a similar qualification or proof of successful completion of the first two years of the revised 4-year LLB curriculum. If you are currently in your 1st semester of your second year, we can assist with a bursary for your 3rd and 4th year of study. OR If you are currently in your 1st semester of your third year, we can assist with a bursary for your final year of study. Preference will be given to applicants in serious financial need, although outstanding academic merit will be taken into consideration. A bursary shall only be applied towards the tuition fees of a recipient. The Fund’s Board of Control will in each case determine the amount of the bursary. A bursary can be awarded for a maximum period of two years at a South African University.

PPS bursaries are awarded on financial need and academic record to full time university students. To be eligible for the 2014 awards, the student must be registered at a participating South African University or University of Technology (listed below) registering for a fourth academic year of study or post-graduate degree and must be studying towards a profession, which on qualification, would be eligible for PPS membership.

PPS offers bursaries and scholarships to fourth year and postgraduate students in a variety of fields.

The Road Traffic Infringement Agency offers learnership opportunities to unemployed young South Africans and applicants who must meet the following criteria: Must be currently unemployed; • Must have never participated in any learnership or internship programme; • Must have a grade 12 certificate with a minimum of a symbol C in English and Mathematics / Mathematical Literacy; • Must be a South African citizen and be between 18 and 35 years of age; and • Must be willing to enter into a 12-month uninterrupted learnership contract.

The Sishen Iron Ore Company-Community Development Trust (SIOC-cdt) was formed by Kumba Iron Ore Limited, in order to invest in developing the communities within which the company operates. The SIOC-cdt has provided over 550 bursaries to deserving underprivileged students in its beneficiary communities, to complete their studies higher education institutions across the country.

The E.V. Adams Scholarship is awarded each year to students who display exceptional abilities, and whom the firm’s partners consider deserving on the basis of academic merit and financial need. The bursary is open to students enrolled at a South African University who demonstrate consistently strong academic performance. South African Citizens studying towards their BA Law/BCom Law/ LLB degree. First year students must provide their Grade 11 and 12 results, indicating that they have maintained a B symbol or higher in English and a C symbol or higher in Mathematics since Grade 11. Furthermore, they must demonstrate their financial need for support. Tertiary students must have maintained a higher than average academic standard. The bursary programme is provided to students with a view to employment as Candidate Attorneys at the firm.

The Imfundo Trust Scholarships provide funding to study on a full-time basis for undergraduate and selected postgraduate degree programmes at selected universities in South Africa.

The South African Reserve Bank (the Bank) provides bursaries to students in relevant fields of study who are from disadvantaged backgrounds. These bursaries are made available annually to needy qualifying Grade 12 pupils to embark on full-time studies. These includes, for example; Economics, Actuarial Sciences, Mathematical Statistics, Information Technology, Finance, Law and Accounting, but also includes for example, Medicine, Dentistry and Social Work. A bursary will be granted from the first academic year and reviewed annually. Bursary holders need not reapply for the bursary each year. The Bank will provide students who are Bank bursary holders, vacation work opportunities that are funded by the Bank.

The University offers a range of scholarships to international students who show exceptional academic potential. In partnership with the University of Sheffield Africa Scholarship Trust, the Department of Geography is pleased to offer one scholarship for a postgraduate taught student from Africa. You must have an offer to study on one of the following courses starting in September 2023 at the University of Sheffield MA International Development MSc Environmental Change and International Development MPH International Development

The Foundation offers high school scholarships to learners who demonstrate the potential to excel academically, and who have the desire to fully engage in available opportunities. Scholarship recipients, known as Allan Gray Scholars, receive funding for high school tuition. It is the Scholarship’s vision to develop a community of young entrepreneurially minded leaders so that Scholars will become Candidate Fellows or gain access to university. The Scholarship was created to broaden the pool of Fellowship applications from those who are able to demonstrate financial need in Southern Africa. The Scholarship focuses on the development of intellectual imagination, encouragement of personal initiative, infusion of spirit of significance, courageous commitment and pursuit of excellence.
