The South African Mathematics and Science Teacher Intern Programme (SAMSTIP) is an ISASA initiative that aims to address a root cause of South Africa’s skills shortage: the critical lack of qualified mathematics and science teachers. SAMSTIP, Investec and the Department of Basic Education are offering prospective Senior and Further Education and Training (FET) teachers specialising in the fields of Mathematics and the Sciences an opportunity to win bursaries to study for a four year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree or a one year Post-graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at UNISA.

The MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology) offers scholarships to foreign students who wish to study at Japanese universities under the Japanese Government Scholarship Program. The MEXT Scholarship scholarship is for research students, undergraduate students, specialized training college students as well as for teacher training.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides loans and gives various NSFAS bursaries to students at all 25 of our public universities, as well as the 50 public TVET colleges. Instead of having to repay the monetary value as with loans, bursars who apply for a NSFAS bursary will enter into a contract to work in a specific sector in South Africa for a specified amount of time after their graduation.

The Sishen Iron Ore Company-Community Development Trust (SIOC-cdt) was formed by Kumba Iron Ore Limited, in order to invest in developing the communities within which the company operates. The SIOC-cdt has provided over 550 bursaries to deserving underprivileged students in its beneficiary communities, to complete their studies higher education institutions across the country.

This bursary is available for further study in SPEECH TRAINING, ORAL COMMUNICATION OR THE TEACHING OF ENGLISH AS A FIRST or SECOND LANGUAGE. The bursary is available ONLY to QUALIFIED TEACHERS (minimum M+3) with at least FOUR (4) YEARS TEACHING EXPERIENCE. The course can be by correspondence, part-time or full-time, but must be undertaken at an educational institution in SOUTH AFRICA.
