ALLAN GRAY ORBIS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME
For pioneering bright young Grade 12 learners and first year university students from South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Swaziland who want to become high impact responsible entrepreneurs in the fields of Business Sciences & Commerce, Engineering, Law and Science. University studies are covered by a full undergraduate scholarship that includes tuition, university residence and a book allowance as well as a monthly stipend. They are able to study at the following Universities: Nelson Mandela University, Rhodes University, University of Cape Town, University of Johannesburg, University of Pretoria, University of the Witwatersrand.
ASHINAGA INITIATIVE - JAPANESE GOVERNMENT
The Ashinaga Africa Initiative began in 2014. Its mission is to contribute to Sub-Saharan Africa’s expanding role in global development through increasing access to higher education abroad. Student from Sub-Saharan countries in Africa are selected, and provided with an opportunity to study at the world's top universities, with the expectation that gain the capability to establish and improve their own societies in the future. Students are provided with an intensive study camp at Ashinaga Kokorojuku, an educational facility in Uganda, where they strengthen their linguistic abilities and subjects of interest. Who Can Apply? Brilliant orphaned student from each of the 49 Sub-Saharan countries in Africa.
The Australia Awards are prestigious international scholarships and fellowships funded by the Australian Government that aim to contribute to the long term development needs of Australia’s partner countries, in line with bilateral and regional agreements. Scholarships are available to undertake full time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions. Study programs must relate to applicants country’s priority areas for development. Bursary Fields include, Agriculture, Building Science & Construction , Education, Engineering, Finance, Nursing. Who Can Apply? You must be a citizen of the African country eligible to apply for this award. At least 25 and not older than 50 years of age at the date of your application. At least three (3) years' post-graduation work experience. This work experience must be in a role relevant to proposed field of study and to employment organisation type. Possess, as a minimum, a Bachelors degree (or the equivalent) from a recognised Institution of at least 3 years in length or a BTech (with at least a C level pass).
Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at universities in the UK. The Chevening programme was established in 1983 and has developed into a prestigious international scheme. Chevening Scholars come from more than 150 countries and territories worldwide (excluding the USA and the EU), and this year the Scholarships will support more than 1500 individuals. There are over 43,000 Chevening alumni around the world who together comprise an influential and highly regarded global network. The programme provides full or part funding for full-time courses at postgraduate level, normally a one-year Master’s degree, in any subject and at any UK university. Who Can Apply? Applicants should hold a degree that is equivalent to at least an honours degree in the UK before applying. they should have completed at least two years' work experience before applying. This can include voluntary work and paid or unpaid internships. Applicants must meet the Chevening English language requirement. Applicants need to apply to three different eligible UK university courses (unless otherwise specified in your award category).
FULBRIGHT FOREIGN STUDENT PROGRAM
The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals and artists from abroad to study and conduct research in the United States. The Fulbright Foreign Student Program operates in more than 155 countries worldwide. Approximately 4,000 foreign students receive Fulbright scholarships each year. This programme is open to Masters and PhD students.
GATES CAMBRIDGE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Gates Cambridge Scholarships are highly competitive full-cost scholarships. They are awarded to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. Who Can Apply? Gates Cambridge Scholars are expected to be academically outstanding with the ability to make a significant contribution to their discipline while in Cambridge. At the start of the application process, potential Scholars are ranked by the department they are applying to. Only the most outstanding candidates are considered further.
The Humphrey Fellowship Program is for experienced professionals interested in strengthening their leadership skills through a mutual exchange of knowledge and understanding about issues of common concern in the U.S. and Fellows’ home countries. As a non-degree program, the Fellowship offers valuable opportunities for professional development through selected university courses, attending conferences, networking, and practical work experiences. Who Can Apply? An undergraduate (first university or Bachelor's) degree; A minimum of five years of full-time, professional experience; Limited or no prior experience in the United States; Demonstrated leadership qualities; A record of public service in the community; English language ability.
NEW ZEALAND COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS
New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships are prestigious scholarships that recognise New Zealand’s history and ties to the Commonwealth. Our Commonwealth Scholarships are part of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) - an international programme under which Commonwealth countries offer scholarships and fellowships to citizens of other Commonwealth states. NZ Commonwealth Scholarships are funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme, the New Zealand Government’s overseas aid and development programme. They are managed by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT). Who Can Apply? New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships are available for the following postgraduate qualifications: Master’s Degree (1 – 2 years) PhD (up to 3.5 years). The application process for a New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarship is different to other New Zealand Scholarships. Applicants must submit their applications to their country's 'Nominating Agency' first. The Nominating Agency then 'nominates' two applicants from the submitted applications to send to the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
RHODES SCHOLARSHIP (POST-GRADUATE)
The Rhodes Trust Scholarship is one of the most prestigious and long-standing scholarships supporting outstanding all-round students at the University of Oxford. The Scholarships are awarded for pursuing full-time postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford, UK. Rhodes Scholars have selected from many countries around the world annually. Who Can Apply? The scholarship is open to all applicants who have completed their undergraduate degree to a very high standard. Academic achievement must be sufficiently high to assure entry to the University of Oxford, whose admissions are internationally competitive, and to give confidence that Rhodes Scholars will perform to a high academic standard in Oxford.
The Mandela Rhodes Scholarships aim to help in building leadership excellence in Africa. A Mandela Rhodes Scholarship is more than a bursary, though the costs of Scholars are generously covered during their period of study. The Mandela Rhodes Foundation offers young Africans who exhibit academic prowess as well as broader leadership potential an educational opportunity unique on the continent. While pursuing their chosen post-graduate degree, each Scholar benefits from access to leadership development programmes, rooted in the principles underpinning the Foundation. Who Can Apply? The Mandela Rhodes scholarship is open to postgraduate students. It is a requirement of the Mandela Rhodes Scholarships that all applicants are citizens of African countries. All applicants must provide a certified copy of their South African ID or passport attached to the application form. Applicants should either be nominated by (your) university or tertiary institution or may be self-nominated by applying directly to the MRF.
UNESCO / CHINESE GOVERNMENT – EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
The Government of the People's Republic of China has placed at the disposal of UNESCO fellowships for advanced studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These fellowships are for the benefit of developing Member States in Africa, to pursue education and advanced research for a period of 1 year. Who Can Apply? Tenable at a number of Chinese universities, these fellowships are offered to senior advanced students intending to pursue higher education or undertake individual research with periodic guidance from assigned supervisors for a duration of one academic year.
STIPENDIUM HUNGARICUM - HUNGARY
Hungary continues to grow its international student market by offering assistance to students from select countries including from Southern Africa. The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme is based on bilateral educational cooperation agreements signed between the Ministries responsible for education in the sending countries/territories and Hungary or between higher education institutions. Currently nearly 70 Sending Partners are engaged in the programme throughout 5 different continents.
